WoW Forever Paladin Guide: Seals, Talents, Holy Shock & Best Builds
Paladins keep their Seal and Judgement identity in World of Warcraft: Forever, with new tools for all three specs. Blizzard’s Paladin deep dive, the last in its class series, describes them as potentially “highly effective tanks, competitive damage dealers, and the strongest single-target healers in the game”. The game is in beta, so all of this can still change.

Last checked: 19 October 2026, against Blizzard’s deep dive published 15 October.
Race and faction
Every class can now be played on both factions. Undead is the new Horde Paladin race. See racials and race/class combinations for the full list.
Talents at a glance
Talents start at level 10. Gold medal talents sit at 11, 21 and 31 points, joined by a new 16-point gold medal. Visit a class trainer in a major city to respec, including Legacy talents. Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40. More on this in the talent trees guide.
Baseline changes (all specs)
| Ability | Change |
|---|---|
| Holy Strike | New, learned at level 6. Instant Holy damage based on 50% of weapon damage plus a bonus per rank |
| Seal of Fury | New seal, learned at level 10 (see Protection) |
| Judgement | No longer consumes your active Seal |
| Consecration | Learned by every Paladin at level 20. Moderate damage to the first 4 enemies to enter it, very low damage to the rest |
| Lay on Hands | Cooldown cut from 1 hour to 20 minutes |
| Righteous Fury | Threat bonus reduced, because Protection has more Holy damage than in Classic Era |
| Fire, Frost and Shadow Resistance Auras | Now affect all raid members within 30 yards |
| Salvation | No longer a Blessing, so you can have Salvation and a Blessing on one target. The class-wide raid version becomes Mass Salvation |
Blizzard notes that the Salvation change is not live yet and is going into a future beta build. Consecration’s 4-target limit keeps Paladins level with Warriors’ Thunderclap and preserves the Classic Era feel, according to the developers.
Seal Twisting
The Classic-style version no longer exists baseline. Instead, the Retribution 31-point talent Twist of Light keeps the Seal-swapping gameplay with looser timing windows. It cuts Seal mana costs by 20%, and when a damaging Seal is replaced it leaves an Echo, so your next melee attack gains the replaced Seal’s benefit as well as the active one. Blizzard warns that sustaining it indefinitely will be hard on mana.
Holy’s 21-point Holy Shock is placed as the alternative, so you can skip Seal Twisting and play a hybrid build.
Holy
Holy gets single-target healing tools, group support and spell damage.
- Holy Shock moves from the 31-point to the 21-point talent. Cooldown drops from 30 to 10 seconds. This supports the hybrid “Shockadin” playstyle.
- Light’s Vigil (new 31-point talent, requires Holy Shock): 1.5 second cast, 30 second duration, 6 second cooldown, usable on allies and enemies. The next Holy Shock on that target skips its cooldown. On an ally, their whole party is healed instantly for a moderate amount. On an enemy, they take extra Holy damage and 75% of Light’s Vigil’s mana is refunded. One friendly target per party.
- Voice of Truth (new 11-point talent): immunity to Silence and Interrupt for 6 seconds, 3 minute cooldown.
- Infusion of Light: crits with Holy Shock and Flash of Light cut your next Holy Light’s cast time by up to 1 second, to discourage spamming Flash of Light.
- Illumination can now trigger from Light’s Vigil, but the mana refund drops to 50% of the base cost.
- Divine Precision (new): up to 18% more hit chance with Holy spells, because Plate healing gear will not carry Hit chance.
- Consecrated Ground (new): Holy spells deal up to 10% more damage to the first 4 enemies in your Consecration.
- Divine Favor becomes a 16-point talent. Holy Power now adds up to 15% crit to Holy Shock and Holy Strike.
- Other tweaks: Reverence (new, up to 30% of Spirit regeneration while casting), Purifying Power (new, cheaper Cleanse/Purify and shorter Exorcism and Holy Wrath cooldowns), Improved Seals now affects all Seals and Judgements, and Unyielding Faith now shortens Fear and Disorient durations.
Blizzard’s summary: Holy excels at sustained single-target healing with Flash of Light. Healing a whole party takes more planning, but the new talents let Holy step into that role. For gear and class balance context, see the class changes overview.
Protection
- Seal of Fury: each melee swing deals constant bonus Holy damage, which favours fast weapons. You gain an absorption shield equal to 50% of that damage (it doesn’t stack). Its Judgement deals extra Holy damage and taunts the target at 10 yards, versus 5 yards for Druid Growl and Warrior Taunt.
- Templar’s Bulwark (new 21-point talent): instant, 5 minute cooldown, an absorb equal to 100% of your maximum health for 8 seconds. It applies Forbearance. Holy Shield now requires it.
- Swift Judgement (new 16-point talent): no mana cost, 1 minute cooldown, finishes your Judgement cooldown and makes the next Judgement free. Useful after a resisted taunt.
- Improved Seal of Fury (new 11-point talent): returns mana whenever a Seal of Fury shield is fully consumed, more against higher-level attackers.
- Redoubt redesigned: a 10% chance when hit (no crit needed) to gain up to 20% Block chance.
- Improved Righteous Fury now gives up to 6% reduced damage taken rather than threat.
- Shield Specialization blocks can restore 6% of maximum mana, at most once every 3 seconds.
- Reckoning can now trigger from Blocking (up to 40%), no more than once per 1.5 seconds. Blizzard says it is aware that Reckoning can’t yet stack 4 charges and that the extra attacks can interrupt swing timers, and plans a fix.
- Iron Creed (new): up to 15% more threat from Holy Strike, plus up to 10% reduced damage for 6 seconds while Righteous Fury is active.
- Also new or changed: Sacred Duty, Precision (now all spells and attacks), Anticipation (up to 20 Defense) and One-Handed Weapon Specialization (full effect at 3 points).
- Removed: Blessing of Sanctuary, Improved Concentration Aura. Blessing of Kings becomes baseline.
Retribution
- Twist of Light: see Seal Twisting above.
- Sacred Arbiter (new 16-point talent): Holy Strike does 20% more damage and refreshes all Judgement effects on the target, even other Paladins’ ones.
- Champion of the Light (new): adds spell damage based on Intellect. Blizzard’s talent text lists up to 30% of Intellect. Blizzard’s own commentary says it was tuned down from 100% to 60%, and our earlier notes record a further 1 October cut to 20/40/60%, so treat the exact number as in flux.
- Instrument of Law (new): Hammer of Wrath cast time down by up to 1 second (instant), and 20% less threat while Righteous Fury is off.
- Sanctified Judgement (new): Judgement has up to a 100% chance to refund up to 60% of the Seal’s cost.
- Vengeance redesigned: lasts 30 seconds, up to 3% damage per stack, 3 stacks (9% total).
- Vindication redesigned: chance to lower the target’s Attack Power and raise your own by up to 3% for 30 seconds.
- Repentance moves to the 21-point slot. Benediction now cuts the cost of all instant spells and abilities by up to 10%. Holy Conduit (new) cuts the cost of Consecration, Holy Wrath and Exorcism by up to 40%.
- Pursuit of Justice now gives up to 15% movement speed. Eye for an Eye works on all crits but reflects up to 10% of damage taken.
- Removed: Improved Retribution Aura, Sanctity Aura.
Limits to know about
Blizzard says Paladins are very strong against Undead and Demons but have limited ranged capabilities. Holy talents can extend their range, though not as far as other mana users. They have no interrupt and no way to slow enemy movement.

Frequently asked questions
Is Seal Twisting in WoW Forever?
In a new form. Classic-style Seal Twisting no longer works baseline, but the 31-point Retribution talent Twist of Light leaves an Echo when a damaging Seal is replaced, so your next melee attack gets the benefit of both Seals.
Can Paladins tank in WoW Forever?
Yes. Protection gets the new Seal of Fury, a Judgement taunt with a 10-yard range, baseline Consecration limited to 4 targets, and the Templar's Bulwark survival cooldown.
What does Holy Shock do for Paladins in WoW Forever?
Holy Shock moves from the 31-point to the 21-point Holy talent, and its cooldown drops from 30 to 10 seconds. This makes hybrid "Shockadin" builds easier.
When do Paladins learn Consecration in WoW Forever?
At level 20, as a baseline ability for every Paladin rather than a Holy talent.
