WoW Forever Beta Closed: End-of-Beta Celebration & What Happens Next

By Updated

The WoW: Forever beta is over. Blizzard thanked testers for five weeks of playtesting, data gathering, bug reports and feedback, and says it is now doing focused work on priority issues and the game service ahead of launch on 4 November 2026.

What happens next

  • 27 October: access to the character creation system opens, so you can choose your ruleset and claim a name before launch. See our guides to rulesets and name reservation.
  • Next week: the official WoW: Forever Podcast continues. Episodes 1 to 5 (including the “End of Beta Special”) are already out.
  • 4 November: launch. See the release date and schedule.

The farewell celebration

On 22 October Blizzard announced a 24-hour celebration, running until the beta closed at 10:00 a.m. PDT on 23 October. It centred on Zephras Isle, Dun Morogh, Elwynn Forest, Teldrassil, Durotar, Tirisfal Glades and Mulgore. Blizzard warned that it was one-time-only and that its items and experiences almost certainly would not be in the game at launch.

Wowhead’s write-up of the final hours reports (we have not seen these ourselves):

  • A new NPC outside capital cities sold consumables, including fireworks, a speed scroll and a potion giving 200% extra experience.
  • World bosses appeared in starting zones: Azuregos, “Super” Hogger, Voracious, Thunderaan and Lord Kazzak.
  • Killing them dropped legendaries such as Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros and Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.
  • Starter-zone mobs dropped Classic Tier 1 set pieces and Molten Core weapons.
  • Blizzard re-released the contaminated boxes from the 2008 Wrath of the Lich King Scourge event, spreading the plague across Azeroth.

Blizzard also restarted the beta realms at 2:00 p.m. PDT on 22 October during the event.
