Diablo III is a game with lots and lots of data, what people can do with that data is incredible. So Blizzard has posted the first few hints of a Diablo III API on the forums.
An API for Diablo III will allow creative developers to create all sorts of applications and rankings or ladders to display data. We should expect to see the likes of Diablo III Progress using this API once it is released. One thing to note though, the API will most likely not include Auction House data, it is clear why Blizzard would not want to share the auction house data as it could give people an unfair advantage when using a different interface.
A note from Blizzard on the API
Please keep in mind that this is an early preview and there will likely be many changes to the D3 API by the time it is released. Also note that we haven’t finalized several key pieces of information including artisan recipes, hero and follower spells and powers and achievements.
Available API Information
Career Profile
This will be the basic API for trying to retrieve an accounts list of heroes and general information like that.
Hero Profile
The Hero profile will be for specific pertaining to the hero, like armour, spells and so on.
Other Potential Data Available (Not 100% Confirmed)
- Achievement Data
- Realm Status Data
- Item Data
If you decide to use the API then let us know and we will create a large list of great applications (Web or non web) for people to use and enjoy.
This is great news for the Diablo III community and should provide you with even more enjoyment, once the apps are up and running.
